Mobile App

  • What permissions does the app need?In order to function properly, the mobile app requires access to the camera and location. It uses the camera to scan the QR codes for analysis, and uses the location to report any malicious QR codes nearby.
  • What is the minimum OS versions?In line with the recommendations of Cyber Essentials, we have decided to make the mobile app available to all supported mobile OS versions. Therefore, when a mobile OS is no longer supported by the vendor, we will update our minimum requirements.
  • Do you store personal data?No, we don't store your personal data (unless you complete a feedback form with your details.
  • Do you track my location?No, we don't track your mobile device or identity when requesting a location - we merely record a QR code location.
  • Why does the mobile app crash when using on an Android phone?The most likely reason for this is because the app protection is detecting that your device is either rooted or has USB debugging enabled.

Registration

  • How do I register?You can register for an account from our Pricing page. Initial registration takes about 5 minutes, but we then need to verify your details.
  • Who can register?Registration is open to official organisations, companies, charities, public bodies. We do not allow individuals to register for an account.
  • How do you verify my details?We use a combination of manual and uatomated verification to verify your details.

    We require evidence to prove that you are an organisation, and that you meet our cyber security requirements (Cyber Essentials & cyber insurance).
  • Can I change my plan after registration?Yes, you can change your plan at any time, but you cannot downgrade your plan if you exceed the limits of your current plan. You can upgrade your plan at any time.

Billing

  • Can we pay on a monthly basis?Our plans are billed annually, but we do offer a 30-day money-back guarantee if you're not satisfied with our service.
  • What payment methods do you take?We accept most major debit & credit cards and bank transfers.
  • Do you accept cheques?Unfortunately, we no longer accept cheques as a means of payment.
  • What currency can I pay in?We accept payments in GBP (£), USD ($) and EUR (€).

Advertising & Branding

  • What is the advertising service?The advertising service is included in our plans and allows an organisation to add their logo and text to the QR results pages. This is a great way to promote your brand and show your customers that you care about their security.
  • What is the branding service?The branding service is included in our plans and allows an organisation to use the QRsiren logo with their QR codes. This gives users confidence that the QR code is secure and not tampered with..

Alerts

  • What is the alerts service?The alerts service lets you know if the is an issue with any of your QR codes.

    One alert looks out for a tampered QR code and sends an alert if a malicious QR code is detected in the vicinity of your QR code.

    The other alert notifies you when a QR code hasn't been scanned in a long time. This could be a sign that someone has tampered with your QR code, but it also lets you know that the QR code may not be in a prominent location.
  • How do I receive an alert?Alerts are send via e-mail to registered users, who can then logon to our client portal for additional details.

General

  • What do the letters QR stand for?The letters Q and R stand for quick response. This code was so named because the main purpose of the code development was to create a code that could be read quickly.
  • What is the size of a QR code?The minimum size of a QR code should be 2cm x 2cm. However, the size of the QR code depends on the medium of the outlet chosen.
  • Can QR codes be edited?Once QR codes are created, only dynamic QR codes can be edited. Static QR codes cannot be edited once they are created.
  • Why do QR codes have 3 squares?QR codes have 3 big squares at 3 corners (bottom left, top left, and top right) that contain the finder pattern and a smaller square towards the bottom right corner that contains the alignment pattern.

    The 3 big squares allow the QR code to be detected and interpreted by a QR code reader. Whereas, the smaller square helps align the QR code and ensures it is read even if the scanning angle is skewed.
  • Can the design of a QR code be changed?Yes, the design of a QR code can be changed. However, the design should not interfere with the readability of the code. The design should be such that the code can be scanned easily.
